The Department of Human Development and Psychoeducational Studies (HDPES) offers a bachelor’s degree, a master's degree, and doctoral degrees in three specializations.
Mission
The mission of HDPES is to meet the human development, educational, and psychological needs of a multicultural society. Consistent with the mission of Howard University, HDPES seeks to provide an educational experience of exceptional quality to students of high academic potential. HDPES is dedicated to creating an environment that not only encourages students to learn, but also one that is conducive to faculty excellence in the areas of teaching, research, scholarship, and service. HDPES programs are aimed specifically at preparing educators, psychological practitioners, and researchers for leadership roles and challenging careers in schools, colleges/universities, community programs, government, and other career settings with regard to research, service, and policy as related to individuals and their families.
