Message from the Dean

I bring you warm greetings on behalf of the Howard University School of Education (HUSOE).

We are a community of dedicated educational professionals committed to preparing transformational leaders—highly qualified teachers, reflective practitioners, effective administrators, school and counselor psychologists, future superintendents, and educational researchers—who influence policies and practices affecting Black and other underserved populations. Our graduates are equipped to excel in a rapidly changing and diverse world.

To achieve this mission, we cultivate preparation programs that encourage interdependence and promote a dynamic cross‑cultural exchange of systems, values, ideas, and strategies. At HUSOE, we hold a steadfast commitment to meeting the needs of urban school communities. Each day, we engage deeply with social justice issues related to equity, access, and opportunity. Because this work is our passion, you will hear it in our conversations and see it reflected in our practice.

We are proud to host HUCARES, Center for the HBCU Research, Leadership, and PolicyEarly Learning Program that serves ages 3-6, an Upward Bound Program, and the Urban Superintendent Academy. Additionally, the Journal of Negro Education stands as HUSOE’s hallmark research publication.

HUSOE maintains national accreditation by CAEP and is ranked among the top 100 Graduate Schools of Education by US News and World Report. We offer nationally recognized, accredited undergraduate and graduate programs to a diverse population of students from across the nation and around the world. As you explore this website, you will see that our faculty, students, and distinguished alumni are making a meaningful impact. We invite you to enjoy your virtual visit with our administration, faculty, and staff at the School of Education. We look forward to hearing from you!

In Truth and Service,
Scott Jackson Dantley, Ph.D.
