HU CARES
The Howard University Center for Advocacy, Research and Educational Services (HU CARES) is an infrastructure within the School of Education that provides public facing programs. The three pillars of the HU CARES include an Education Research Institute, Advocacy Outreach, and a Psychological Clinic. The Clinic is our newest addition that will help to address the current mental health landscape by closing existing gaps in mental health services.

During the height of the pandemic, we hosted The Convening—a virtual gathering that brought together over 1,000 Black women leaders from across the country for connection, inspiration, and collective care. Now, we are building on that powerful moment with The Re-Convening: Restoring Power and Purpose to uplift and support Black women superintendents.
This in-person experience held at the beautiful Salamander Resort and Spa in Middleburg, VA offers a rare opportunity to pause, reflect, and reconnect. Rooted in the principles of rest and restoration, the Re-Convening honors the full humanity of Black women in leadership. It acknowledges the multiple roles you carry—and creates a space where healing, community, and leadership renewal can flourish. Together, we will explore how we lead, how we grow others, and how we sustain ourselves in the process.
If you are a Black woman superintendent seeking a space for restoration, sisterhood, and strategic reflection, we encourage you to apply.
