STEM Summer Camp & Verizon Innovative Learning

Verizon Innovative Learning Program

Overview
Launched in 2015, the Verizon STEM Achievers program partners with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and rural institutions to equip middle school students with the skills needed for future tech careers. Selected students participate in the Howard University STEM Achievers program from June 24 to July 11, running from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Our courses focus on immersive media, digital product innovation, and artificial intelligence. We also emphasize cultural enrichment and movement. Previous program results show that 91% of participants improved their science skills, while 90% demonstrated increased proficiency in math.

Summer Immersion
The Howard University Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers program introduces students to STEM subjects, fostering problem-solving skills and career exploration in technology fields. This three-week summer program immerses students in next-generation technology and hands-on training tied to real-world challenges. Designed for 6th-8th graders, the program offers engaging experiences in design thinking, 3D printing, augmented reality, and social entrepreneurship—no prior knowledge or experience needed.
